On Christmas Eve, watch the magical torchlight parade create a stream of glowing light as the 60-100 employees of Telluride Ski Area ski down Coonskin and into town. For a holiday with plenty of outdoor fun, this is the place.
Berlin

Berlin does Christmas Market on grand scale, with 60 different markets to choose from. The whole city glows with lights and romance. Among the most famous is the Schloss Charlottenburg market, staged in and around the castle. Only natural materials are used to create the fabulous decorations. Music in never ending, from live brass and woodwind bands to the Berlin barrel-organ. The Children’s Christmas market boasts rides, a petting zoo and a pony ride. There are so many European getaways that are full of romance and adventure that travel writers have written entire books about them. Here are six breathtaking romantic getaways. Thanks to Europe’s topnotch transportation systems, all of them are fairly easy to get to and there are reasonably priced hotels or hostels or pensiones in the area.
Italy: The Lake District
The beautiful Lake District in Italy, with its sparkling blue volcanic lakes, stretches from the Piedmont to Venetia and into Switzerland and embraces Lakes Maggiore, Orta, Lugano, Como, Iseo and Garda. The vegetation around Lake Maggiore, in particular, is especially lush, with a profusion of water lilies, lotus, coffee and tulip trees, palms, rhododendrons, azaleas and myrtles. The visitors should take time to visit the islands in some of the lakes, as well as the resorts, old palatial houses and castles and their gardens.
Paris: The Bois de Boulogne
The Bois is a 2,224 acre park full of flowers, trees, ornamental lakes, cafes and restaurants in the heart of Paris. Back in the day it was a forest where bear, deer, wolves and wild boar were hunted. Later, it became a royal hunting ground, then a place where the rich and powerful built their mansions. Finally, Napoleon III gave the park to Paris. Among the sights to see are the Bagatelle, the former house of Charles X and the Hertford Family, the Upper and Lower Lakes, the Shakespeare garden and the Municipal Floral garden with a hothouse full of exotic and tropical plants.
Greece: Corfu
The island of Corfu is known, in modern times at least, as the birthplace of the Duke of Edinburgh and the playground of many of his royal relatives, including Kaiser Wilhelm II and Elizabeth of Austria. The island is 37 miles long and is a bit warm and damp in the winter but very hot and summer and so is lush with old olive trees, citrus, magnolias and palms. The Spianada, planted with beautiful gardens, is a great place for strolling at twilight. Pelekas sports the Kaiser’s Throne, which is where Kaiser Wilhelm used to come and watch the beautiful panoramic view.
Germany: The Mosel Valley
This is a beautiful valley carved out by the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer rivers. The valley has been long planted with vineyards famous for their wines. One excursion is to Bernkasetel-Kues, known for superb vineyards. The visitors should take note of the sundials fixed to the rocks there. Some vintages of wine have been named after these sundials. Another nice excursion is to visit Koblenz, whose name comes from the Latin word for “confluence.” Here’s where the Mosel and the Rhine meet, as well as the four Rhine massifs.
French Riviera: Menton
Menton is the warmest of the resort towns on the Riviera, as it’s sheltered by the north wind. This makes it a lovely place to stay for the winter as well as the summer. The visitors can see the partially man-made Garavan harbor and the tropical botanical garden around the Villa ValRahmeh. The famous Menton lemon trees perfume the air and in February the citrus and flower show closes the annual Lemon Festival.
United Kingdom: The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds are found in ravishingly beautiful and wild hill country in the center of England. They’re mostly in Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and a bit into Warwickshire. The Cotswolds are dotted with little towns and villages and no doubt the visitor can always find a welcoming Bed and Breakfast. Excursions should include a trip to the amazing, secret garden at Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, with its herbaceous borders, and long, leisurely, aimless walks around the rolling hills with stops at little places with names like Stow-in-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh and Wotton-under-Edge.
If the tourist is interested in any of these places — and how can they not be? — they should feel free to contact Canadian Travel.

2. Watch Real Madrid in Action: Ask any Spaniard what their favorite sport is, and there is no denying that soccer, or “futbol” tops the list. If you can’t make it to a home game, why not visit a local bar and watch it with the locals? Cheer for the rivals at your own risk!
3. Ski Sierra Nevada: While you might not connect Spain with skiing, there are actually an incredible range, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, which offer the best slopes in the country.
4. Explore History in Cadiz: As the oldest city in Western Europe, it should come as no surprise that Cadiz is full of amazing historical sites. Tour ancient ruins around the port, crumbling churches and even the location where the first Spanish Constitution was signed, creating the country.

7. Tan on Platja de la Barceloneta: While visiting the city of Barcelona, don’t forget to walk about the miles of boardwalk that runs along the coast, and stop for a swim or a chance to tan on the sandy white shores. The beach is popular with locals and visitors alike, and is quite safe.
8. Stay Awake at Gran Vía: This is the area of Madrid that never seems to sleep. Nightclubs and bars stay open until the sun rises, and young people people from around the world gather for a fun night of drinks and dancing until morning.

If you are Canadian, don't forget to pack your Canada patch as Europeans tend to be a little biased towards Canadian travel explorers. Who knows, maybe you will get better service!

The geographical location of the great state of Florida is both a blessing and a curse. The giant peninsula is home to some of the nicest weather on the planet, but it is essentially a large runway-shaped land mass that jets out into the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, making it occasionally vulnerable to hurricanes and tropical storms. Luckily, Floridians have not had to deal with the potentially devastating effects of extreme weather for well over five years.
Many residents of cities such as St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Port Charlotte have in the past sometimes boarded up preemptively or left town ahead of a large incoming storm, but none one of the past 20 major storms have given Florida any substantial problems. While one would have to be a fool to conclude that the state is free from the constant threat of meteorological trouble, this has certainly been good news to the more than 15 million people that live in Florida’s hurricane-prone regions. Folks from Jacksonville to the Florida Keys are thanking their subjects of worship and knocking on the state’s native Palmettos in the hope that the years of calm and tranquil weather patterns will continue.
Tropical Storm Don became the most recent system to make headlines, appearing initially to have the potential to reach the Florida coast, but was steered drastically toward Texas and brought heavy rains – but no damage – to the Baffin Bay. Don gained momentum and steam as it crossed the Gulf of Mexico at a low elevation, getting nourishment and strength from the warm waters of the region. The storm moved through the gulf at about 12 mph, producing modest winds of up to 40 mph, then fizzled out as it approached land. Many residents of Texas actually welcomed Tropical Storm Don with open arms in the hopes that it would help alleviate an ongoing drought in parts of the state.

Meteorologists have discovered a large strip of high pressure that is hovering over parts of Florida and surrounding states that has been steering many of the recent storms away from the Sunshine State and towards Texas and Mexico. The high pressure system has been directly responsible for whisking away the potential dangers of Tropical Storm Arlene and stifling the progress of Bret and Cindy. Arlene skidded along the southern area of the gulf before making landfall in Mexico as a rapidly weakening tropical storm. Bret paralleled the entire eastern coastline before dissolving over the Bahamas. Cindy originated in the far north, gaining winds up to 60 mph before fizzling out about 600 miles east of Bermuda. While the situation has served as a sort of bodyguard to the region, experts are quick to point out that the length of this protection is entirely unpredictable. Florida could easily continue to be hurricane free for another year, or the high pressure system could dissipate and lend way to a high-level storm by week’s end. Unfortunately, virtually nothing involving weather and its many complicated and constantly changing variables can be definitively concluded.
Although property damage has been avoided this calendar year, the hurricane season is off to a fast start. 2011 recently became only the fifth year since 1966 in which four storms were named before the end of July. The last storm to cross the southern region of Florida was 2010′s Tropical Storm Bonnie, marking the beginning of a stretch of peace and quiet that is soon to reach 400 days.
Amazingly, a full-blown hurricane has not hit the state of Florida since Hurricane Wilma in October of 2005. If no storm is able to reach land by the end of this year, it will mark the longest stretch since record-keeping began in the 1850s. This has been highly beneficial for resorts, golf courses and flights in and out of the state’s airports, as the temperatures and conditions have been ideal for vacationing and aquatic recreation. Many charter boating companies are doing excellent business in the exotic waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, and hotels have reported an uptick in business in the first half of 2011.

While experts are as thankful as anyone else for the current fortune of Floridians, they continue to drive home the inherent value of being ready and prepared for the unpredictable arrival of a hurricane. Given the fact that 90% of hurricanes form after August 1st, it would seem as though the peninsula is due for some action before the end of the year. Although clear skies and mild conditions are ideal for everyone, it would be silly to believe that tropical storms will not return eventually.

Fortunately for naturists, there are numerous nude beach getaways in France that cater to those who prefer their beach experience au natural. A cross-section of these options will be listed in our beach guide. By far, the most popular French nude beach is Plage de Tahiti near Saint Tropez. Numerous resorts are near the area and allow easy access to the beach. For those curious about other naturist options, our beach guide will provide a few resort options that welcome nude beach goers.
Cap d’Agde’s Village
This naturist resort is often considered ideal for naturist to relax within the village. Rules are established to help all guests feel comfortable and at ease about their naturist experience. All the comforts of any beach town are offered to naturists of all types. Montpellier is the nearest major airport hub to the naturist village. Transportation may be retrieved from the airport to the resort. The village is gate guarded to allow for maximum privacy and safety.
The difference between this resort and a nude beach such as, Plage de Tahiti is that nudity is required on the beach when the weather is cooperative. Photos may only be taken of your own family members, and pornographic behavior is not permitted. Clothing is considered proper etiquette only during dinner. Boutiques sell revealing clothing suitable for dinner, and they also sell beach gear.
Nightlife consists of bars and lounges. Some bars and lounges cater to “couples only.” These are discreet experiences that may not be suitable for all parties. Each couple must decide their level of comfort with the activities hosted on the resort. These clubs often feature a sauna, Jacuzzi and bar. This is not your typical nude beach experience where nude beach goers have more autonomy over their experience.
Plage de Tahiti
For those who desire the full French Riviera experience, with the option of keeping your clothes on, a resort or hotel on the beach may be more of an option. Sezz Saint Tropez is located just 3 km from Plage de Tahiti beach. These five star accommodations are sure to delight even the most discriminating of tastes. By night, you can enjoy the bars and clubs, and by day you can bathe on the beach in as much or as little clothing as you desire. On this beach nearly 50% of the sunbathers are topless and 30% are completely nude. For those who desire to leave something to the imagination, bikinis and other beach attire is acceptable.
For those who prefer to be within closer proximity to the beach, La Bastide de Saint Tropez offers both rooms and suites with a private garden view or terrace. Free shuttle service is available to the beach, or alternatively, the beach is a mere 10 minute walk away. Guests may also select private yacht tours to other Cote d’Azur, Corsica or Monaco beaches.
Other four and five star resorts are located near the beach that cater to the beach visitor who would like a more autonomous nude beach experience. Many of the hotels offer gourmet cuisine, modern accommodations and stunning views of the Pampalonne beach.
Keep in mind that this beach is often frequented by celebrities such as, Beyonce and others. Celebrities often arrive via yacht or helicopter and are prepared to impress all onlookers with their impeccable bodies or string bikinis. This is the place to go and “be seen.” Lavish partying and luxury lifestyles are promoted at this beach. While it is not uncommon to see wealthy individuals embrace their bodies despite their appearance, the beach caters to the beautiful people. If you are seeking a more accepting and open experience, a nudist resort may be more suitable for your tastes. However, most of the resorts require nudity on their beaches; so be prepared to disrobe.
Most areas of France embrace nudity. Much of European art was based on nude models in earlier times. They are more accepting of nudity than other cultures. While nudity is acceptable, lewd behavior is tolerated only to a point in certain areas. Be mindful of your comments and behavior towards others as you enjoy your new au natural lifestyle. Numerous opportunities await naturists that desire to ‘bare it all’ on some of Europe’s hottest beaches.

Hana Beach is an absolutely must see. A two-hour drive on the twisty Hana Highway will bring you to one of the most protected beaches in Hawaii. The two hour drive may sound like a bit of detraction, but upon arriving you will find the lush beauty worth the time you spent in the car. If doubtful, you can find some virtual tours of the beach online. The topical atmosphere will draw you in and make the decision a synch.
Experience the Anaeho’omalu Beach. Whether you plan to stay for a night or two off the shore or not, this is a must see beach! Anaeho’omalu is long and covered with inviting yellow sand to sink your feet into. A genuine Hawaiian fish pond isn’t far off if you’ve brought a pole along. Swimming and snorkeling are two of the best activities offshore, and the windsurfing couldn’t be better. If you’re new to windsurfing, there are a few beginner schools close by that can get you up and surfing in no time.
Kapalua Beach is on an island by the Gold Coast and speckled with many great paradise spots. Kapalua is the crown jewel. Swaying palm trees beckon you to the relaxing golden crescent beach. The palms protect the beach from strong winds. The waters are calm, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. Onsite facilities such as showers, restrooms, and lifeguards allow you to optimize your stay.
Papohaku Beach is a 3 mile stretch of golden sands and is one of the longest beaches in Hawaii. It is the width of a football field. During the winter months the ocean tosses strongly offshore. Planning a visit during the summer months will offer calm waters that invite swimming. You can spend hours basking in the rays walking, picnicking, and enjoying the splendor of awesome sunsets.
Hulopoe Beach is a golden sanded, palm-bordered beach off the Gold Coast in a specific coastal area known as Lanai. The beach slopes gently down to sapphire-colored waters lush with marine life. The beach falls within the Marine Life Conservation District. Schools of topical fish and spinner dolphins flourish in this area and will not hesitate to play with snorkelers and swimmers. You will find a tide pool in the lava rocks on one side of the bay. The opposite bay houses the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay. It sits prominently on the hill above the bay. Great swimming, fun snorkeling, and diving are just a few offshore activities you can experience.
Haena Beach is a spectacularly beach backed by awe-inspiring cliffs. This gorgeous beach has had the honor of staring as Paradise in many Hollywood features, and it is easy to understand why; grainy golden sand, translucent turquoise waters, and calm summer water. Snorkeling and swimming are popular summer activities here, but in the winter surfers flock to the beach for epic waves.
Lanikai Beach is too gorgeous to be reality. It stretches along a part of the Gold Coast called Windward and is one of the postcard-perfect beaches of the area. It stretches on for a mile of warm golden sand that looks like powdered sugar. The water is an inviting translucent turquoise. Year-round the surf is calm, making this an excellent location for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. There are two tiny bird sanctuary islands offshore to explore and add a scenic backdrop from the shore.
Regardless of the experience you are seeking, there is sure to be a beach that you will fall in love with along the Gold Coast. For a true Hawaiian experience, add some of these beaches to your “Must Enjoy” list. Aloha!

North America has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. All offer the usual amenities of swimming, sunbathing, fishing and surfing. However each beach is also unique and offers its own special attractions. Most people equate trips to the ocean with summertime fun, but off-season beach vacations can be quite awesome. Quieter surroundings, less crowds, solitary walks on the beach, shorter waits in lines, peaceful views, and a calmer lifestyle of the locals, all contribute to memorable off-season beach vacations.
Long Beach, California is among the most well-known and popular beaches in North America. Here in Southern California is the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Queen Mary historic ocean liner. Naples is a city of canals in Long Beach where you can enjoy a gondola cruise just like in Venice, Italy.
Malibu Beach in California, one of the most recognized beaches in North America, was made famous in various television series and movies. This gorgeous beach is over twenty-seven miles long. Surfing and whale watching are popular activities. Home to the ‘rich and famous’, Malibu Beach is a great place to experience new adventures and outdoor activities.

Laguna Beach, also in Southern California, offers spectacular coastal views and great diving spots. A vibrant arts community, art festivals, fairs and museums are enjoyed by thousands of visitors year-round. Dolphin and whale watching cruises are very popular.
Atlantic City, New Jersey is the place to plan your beach vacation if you love the ocean, a busy boardwalk, much nightlife and gambling. Casinos abound with well-known celebrities headlining the many shows offered daily. Open all night, Atlantic City never sleeps.
Coney Island in New York conjures up thoughts of hot fried potato knishes, foot-long Nathan’s hot dogs, cotton candy, boardwalk fries sprinkled with vinegar and Deno’s Wonder Wheel, some one hundred and fifty feet into the air. Old-timers remember Coney Island as a huge amusement park near its beach. The park is on a smaller scale now, but Coney Island beach is still a great getaway for active New Yorkers and tourists alike.
Ocean City, Maryland and nearby Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, are only miles apart but quite different in their ambience. Ocean City offers miles of beaches, restaurants, busy boardwalk, lots of shops and a huge amusement park. Rehoboth Beach is a beautiful beach area on a smaller scale. There are charming shops, wonderful restaurants, bakeries and candy shops. The lifestyle in Rehoboth is more tranquil than the bustling Ocean City. But they are so close that you could actually visit both during the same vacation.
Beautiful beaches, lots of shopping, plenty of activities for the kids, horseback riding along the shore and a golfer’s haven, all describe Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Southern hospitality and cuisine are abundant, plus visitors enjoy the many attractions, such as Ripley’s Aquarium, NASCAR Speed Park, Myrtle Beach Waves Water Park and the Rice Museum. Many people return to Myrtle Beach for all of their beach vacations.
Everyone knows Daytona Beach, Florida is spring break Mecca for high school and college students. But Daytona Beach, and quieter Ormond Beach and Flagler Beach to the north, all offer vacationers, of all ages, a variety of activities from which to choose. Beachgoers can drive their cars along the hard sandy beach and even park at a preferred spot to sunbathe or fish. Daytona Beach offers parasailing, scuba diving and jet skiing. From May through October, you can watch the sea turtles nesting on the beach. Bike Week, held every March, brings thousands of bikers from all over the world, with some of the most unusual cycles ever made. Daytona International Speedway is not only open during the Daytona 500, but year round for the public to enjoy.
Miami Beach, Florida has a shoreline which is 300 feet wide and more than six miles long. Miami Beach is usually busy and crowded, but with so much to do, it is an exhilarating vacation. Many celebrities own local restaurants and the Art Deco Historic District, which is along Ocean Drive, has more than eight hundred buildings listed with the National Register of Historic Places. Nightlife offers everything from local pubs to elegant night clubs, playhouses, theaters, evening cruises and hundreds of cuisine choices at the many restaurants overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or the Intracoastal Waterway.
There are so many popular North American beaches and they all offer plenty of possibilities for wonderful, memorable vacations. The beautiful beaches are attractive to couples looking for a romantic interlude, and also to families and groups looking for excitement and adventure. From northern California and Washington, where the mountains meet the Pacific Ocean, to the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, where the rolling surf meets the blue sky, the vistas are spectacular. Visit during the off-season for a quieter, less expensive vacation, with a wide range of recreational opportunities still offered. Enjoy one of these many majestic beaches where nature and the world co-mingle for breathtaking, new experiences and a great escape from the humdrum of everyday life. You will return home revived, refreshed and ready to plan your return to any one of nature’s awesome North American beaches.

What once seemed like a pipe-dream to most, chartering a private jet is becoming an increasingly popular choice for vacation travel, especially with groups. With demand increasing, so has competition, bringing us more options and better prices. If you charter with a group of family members, friends or business associates, all the costs are divided, just like with a commercial flight. But with a private jet, you are receiving the best in privacy, service, convenience and style, of course. If you can get a good rate on a jet charter, you’re looking at cheaper than first-class per person. Here are my top picks for jet charter vacations:
This is the most popular destination for jet charters in the United States. This is your one-stop shop for weddings, parties, or just a weekend of fun. If you are celebrating a special event such as a bachelor party, a jet charter will make it a trip to remember. And with a group dividing the price it will be worth it, compared to everyone flying commercially. Just the jet ride alone is an adventure in itself and a story to tell, that’s for sure.
This is my second pick within the intercontinental United States is Miami, which is always popular with the jet-set crowd. Head here for a beach getaway without the costs of flying overseas or across a border.
